Letters To The Editor

Is there a certification process for pujaris?

Dear Editor,

The murder of six-year-old Orlando Jaikarran allegedly at the hands of his father should shake the citizens of any nation. According to your news report, ‘Orlando’s father, Bharrat Jaikarran, has alleged that the pujari was involved in the child’s killing. The pujari has denied involvement’ (https://kiskadeewatch.com/guyana/pujari-father-in-custody-as-police-probe-orlandos-killing-six-cutlasses-seized-afc-proposes-national-day-to-remember-children-lost-to-tragedy/ ).

Editor, through you I ask the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha whether there is a certification process for pujaris (Hindu priests). If yes, please detail for us what are the steps in the certification process, and what monitoring and oversight of pujaris is maintained by the umbrella Hindu organizations.

Yours truly,

Janette Bulkan
