Berbice Under-13 produced a disciplined bowling performance to secure a 24-run victory over Demerara Under-13 in the Guyana Cricket Board’s Inter-County tournament at LBI.
After choosing to bat, Berbice were dismissed for 146 in 38.1 overs before limiting Demerara to 122 all out in 34.5 overs.
Justin Southwell led Berbice’s defence with an impressive 3-15 from seven overs, including two maidens. Lamar Lafleur claimed 2-15, while Summit Samaroo delivered a tight spell of 1-2 from three overs.
Demerara’s Rakeeb Latif fought to the end with an unbeaten 30 from 66 balls, while captain Caleb Bastian struck a brisk 29 from 21 deliveries. Aiyan Persaud contributed 20, but Demerara lost wickets regularly and were unable to build the partnerships needed to complete the chase.
Earlier, Berbice were given a steady start by captain Deonarine Chattergoon and Nitan Manna, who shared an opening partnership of 65. Chattergoon top-scored with 23 from 75 balls, while Manna made 13.
Alden Hope added 20 and Jayden Garner scored 14, but extras played a major role in the total. Demerara conceded 53 extras, including 46 wides, which helped Berbice reach a competitive score despite none of their batters passing 25.
Bastian was Demerara’s leading bowler, collecting 4-29 from eight overs, while Huzaifah Shadir finished with 2-20. Aaron Perkins and Latif took one wicket each, with two other batters run out.
Despite Demerara’s defeat, Bastian was named Player of the Match for his all-round performance.
