The race for the Beharry Holding Inc. Schools Under-19 T20 Cricket title will intensify tomorrow when the tournament’s playoffs bowl off at the Queen’s College Ground.

Covent Garden Secondary and Annandale Secondary will contest the Eliminator from 10:00 hrs before Berbice Educational Institute face Abram Zuil Secondary in Qualifier One at 14:00 hrs.

Covent Garden entered the playoff stage after Essequibo Islands Secondary was  disqualified for breaching the tournament’s player eligibility rules.

According to a notice dated August 13, Covent Garden lodged an official protest questioning the eligibility of Essequibo Islands player Dennis Crossman.

An investigation by the Ministry of Education’s Unit of Allied Arts found that Crossman had finished secondary school in 2025 and was not eligible to represent the school in the 2026 tournament.

Essequibo Islands were consequently disqualified for violating Rule One, which deals with player eligibility, allowing Covent Garden to take their place in the Eliminator.

Covent Garden and Annandale will now compete in a must-win encounter, with the loser exiting the competition.

Berbice Educational Institute and Abram Zuil will then meet in the afternoon fixture, with the winning team securing a direct place in the championship match.
