Young cricketers involved in the Transport Developmental League received valuable guidance on discipline, education and personal development during an engagement with senior members of the Guyana Police Force on Wednesday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police ‘Administration’ Ravindradat Budhram and Superintendent Leslyn Smith visited the Transport General Sports Club at Thomas Lands, where they encouraged the players to develop qualities that can help them succeed in cricket and their wider lives.

Budhram told the youths that success on the field should be matched by progress in the classroom. He encouraged them to remain committed to their studies while working towards their cricketing goals, noting that both are important to their future.

He also warned that talent by itself does not guarantee success. According to Budhram, discipline, professionalism, confidentiality and responsible conduct are necessary for young athletes who want to reach the highest level.

The Deputy Commissioner encouraged the players to show respect to others, conduct themselves properly on and off the field, and take pride in their appearance and dress.

Smith reinforced the importance of balancing academics with sport. She explained that cricket can contribute to the development of teamwork, discipline, a strong work ethic and healthier lifestyles.

The Transport Developmental League was established to help young players improve their skills and provide a platform through which emerging talent can be recognised and developed.

The interaction allowed the players to hear directly from senior police officials about the values needed to become responsible athletes and productive members of society.

Head of the Transport General Sports Club, Shaun Massiah, and club manager Charles Greaves organised the session.
