Defending champions Lusignan Bulls will hunt a second consecutive crown when they line up in the Demerara Cricket Board’s eight-team fundraising T10 tournament on November 22 at the LBI Ground.
The team will compete under the ownership of Navin’s Construction and Triple ‘A’ Heavy Duty Equipment Rental, which has also made a financial contribution to the tournament.
Lusignan captured the inaugural title when the competition was played under a club-based format last year. All-rounder Akshaya Persaud believes the Bulls have the right combination to repeat that success.
Persaud said the squad would feature a healthy mix of experienced players and emerging talent as it attempts to secure another championship.
The Bulls are the fourth franchise announced for the competition, joining Premier Insurance, Mike’s Pharmacy and the Guyana Police Force.
The winning franchise will receive G$1 million, but the tournament will also serve a wider purpose, with proceeds being directed towards grassroots cricket development throughout Demerara.
DCB Treasurer Vicky Bharosay welcomed Navin’s Construction and Triple ‘A’ Heavy Duty Equipment Rental as a franchise owner and donor. He highlighted the company’s continued support for sport along the East Coast corridor and in other parts of Guyana.
According to Bharosay, the contribution will play an important role in the successful staging of the event.
Chanderpaul Ramraj, who spoke on behalf of the company, said they were delighted to partner with the DCB and support its efforts to raise funds for cricket development in the county.
Based in Triumph, East Coast Demerara, Navin’s Construction specialises in general construction and rents excavators, skid steers, rollers, loaders and trucks.
Tournament regulations require each franchise to register a 15-member squad containing at least 12 Demerara players. Teams will be allowed to select a maximum of three players from outside the county.
Each squad must also include two Under-19 players, with at least one of them required to play in the final XI.
Play will begin at 10:00h and conclude under lights. Admission to the LBI Ground is $1,000.
