The inaugural ExxonMobil Under-18 Schools Football Tournament, organised by the Vurlon Mills Football Academy, is set to move into a busy phase this week as several regional zones begin competition across Guyana.
The tournament has already kicked off in Region Seven, where Three Mile Secondary made the perfect start with a commanding 4-0 victory over Bartica Secondary in the boys’ competition.
The two schools will return to action on Wednesday, October 7, when their female teams meet from 14:00h at the Bartica Community Centre Ground.
From October 9, the tournament will expand to several other areas, including East Bank Demerara, East Coast Demerara, Region Six and Georgetown.
On the East Bank, Dora Secondary will face Covent Garden Secondary in a boys’ encounter at Providence from 15:00h.
East Coast Demerara will open its programme at Plaisance, where Bladen Hall Secondary will oppose Annandale Secondary in the female competition at 14:00h. Plaisance Secondary and Beterverwagting Secondary will then meet in the boys’ division at 15:30h.
Region Six will also begin on October 9, with New Amsterdam Secondary facing Tutorial Academy in the female competition at All Saints from 14:00h. The following day will feature Lower Corentyne Secondary against Canje Secondary in both divisions, while Corentyne Comprehensive will meet Vryman’s Erven in male and female action. Port Mourant Secondary will also face Tutorial Academy in a boys’ match.
In Georgetown North, Queen’s College will meet Tutorial High in female and male matches on October 9, while Campbellville Secondary will face North Georgetown Secondary in the female competition.
Georgetown South will also begin on October 9, with East Ruimveldt Secondary and Lodge Secondary meeting in both divisions at West Ruimveldt. Tucville Secondary will host Charlestown Secondary in separate female and male contests.
Region Three will enter the competition on October 10 with four boys’ matches at Friendship Park. Westminster Secondary will face De Willem Secondary at 10:00h, followed by Leonora Secondary against Stewartville Secondary at noon. West Demerara Secondary will then meet Uitvlugt Secondary at 14:00h before Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary faces Patentia Secondary at 16:00h.
The Region One Mabaruma zone is scheduled to begin on October 15, with Hosororo Secondary facing Wauna Primary Top in a boys’ fixture. The Moruca zone follows on October 16, when Santa Rosa Secondary meets St. Nicholas Primary Top and Waramuri Secondary faces Kwebanna Secondary, with both match-ups featuring male and female competition.
Region Ten will also begin on October 16 at Wisburg, with Linden Foundation Secondary facing Harmony Secondary before Wisburg Secondary takes on New Silvercity Secondary.
Region Five joins the tournament on October 17, with Mahaicony Secondary facing Bygeval Secondary in both divisions and Belladrum Secondary meeting No. 8 Secondary in male and female action at the No. 5 Ground.
Region Two is scheduled to begin on October 23 at the Richmond Ground. Charity Secondary will first face Cottonfield Secondary in the boys’ division before meeting Abram Zuil Secondary in the female competition.
With Three Mile Secondary already setting the early pace in Region Seven, the inaugural ExxonMobil U18 Schools Football Tournament is poised for a packed period of school football as teams across the country begin their respective campaigns.
