GFF Youth Ensemble finals set for this weekend at NTC

Plaisance FC

The Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Under-13 and Under-15 Youth Ensemble competitions will conclude this weekend with championship and third-place matches at the National Training Centre in Providence.

The final matches will be contested on Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6, bringing an end to several months of nationwide youth football.

Vurlon Mills Football Academy (VMFA) will face Upper Demerara YMCA for the Under-13 championship, while Plaisance FC and Potaro Strikers will battle for third place.

Buxton Stars U15

In the Under-15 division, VMFA will challenge Buxton Stars FC for the title. Friendship FC and Challengers FC will meet in the third-place playoff.

The Youth Ensemble Programme began in May, with matches officially kicking off on May 16. It featured Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 competitions across nine Regional Associations.

More than 2,000 players from 123 clubs registered for the programme, making it one of the GFF’s largest youth football initiatives. Hundreds of matches were played across the participating regions.

The programme was delivered by the GFF in collaboration with FIFA and was designed to give young footballers regular access to organised competition while representing their clubs and communities.

It also provided a wider platform for identifying emerging talent, particularly outside traditional football centres, while helping young players develop their technical ability, tactical awareness, discipline and teamwork.

According to the GFF, $44 million will be invested annually in the Youth Ensemble Programme over the next four years. The investment has been described as the largest made in youth football in Guyana’s history.

The initiative also gave clubs, coaches and players valuable experience in a structured competitive environment as the Federation continues its efforts to strengthen the country’s football development pathway.

Following the completion of the inaugural programme, the GFF intends to build on its progress and continue expanding opportunities for young footballers across Guyana.
