The Guyana Cricket Board has officially sent off its national Under-19 team to Antigua and Barbuda, where the squad will compete in the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-19 50-over Championship.

Guyana will be aiming to return to the top of regional youth cricket after last winning the Under-19 title in 2018. The team had enjoyed a dominant run between 2014 and 2018, capturing five consecutive regional championships.

This year’s tournament will be different from previous editions, as only the 50-over format will be contested. The red-ball segment has been omitted.

The Guyanese side will be led by captain Parmeshwar Ram, with Romario Ramdeholl serving as vice-captain. Guyana will begin its campaign against Trinidad and Tobago on July 11, before facing Jamaica on July 13 and Barbados on July 15.

The team will then take on the Leeward Islands on July 18, followed by its final group match against the Windward Islands on July 20. All matches are scheduled to bowl off at 9:30 hrs.

The squad includes Parmeshwar Ram, Romario Ramdeholl, Shamar Apple, Adrian Hetmyer, Justin Dowlin, Yannick Newton, Dhanesh Persaud, Khush Seegobin, Joshua Budhram, Gilbert Griffith, Feaaz Baksh, Micah Amsterdam, Jonathan Mentore and Darwin Joseph.

The team will be managed by Nazeer Mohamed, while Kumar Bishundial will serve as head coach. Antony Adams has been named assistant coach.
