The leadership and executive body of the Immanuel Congregational Church of Hopetown, West Coast Berbice, has denounced an article published by the Facebook page “Live In Guyana” regarding Member of Parliament Vinceroy Jordan.
The church administration in a release posted on the APNU Facebook page said that it wished to make it absolutely clear that at no point has the Immanuel Congregational Church advanced a loan of $1.2 million, or any other sum, to Jordan. “Our financial records are completely intact, fully audited, and show absolutely no such transaction or deficit”, the church said.
It said that the anonymous “senior church member” cited in the article “does not speak for our executive body, and this individual is either entirely fictional or acting maliciously outside the authority of the church board to instigate public mischief. Contrary to the defamatory claims in the post, all of our community outreach, youth, and welfare programmes are running smoothly and have faced no disruptions or financial strain whatsoever”.
The church added: “We strongly condemn the weaponisation of our sacred institution’s name by online blogs to score cheap political points and damage the character of public officials. We demand that the publishers of “Live In Guyana” immediately remove this defamatory post and issue an unconditional apology to both the church and MP Jordan.”
The press release was signed by Reverend Roshanna Gillis.
