Traffic charges against Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed, were dismissed yesterday at the Whim Magistrate’s Court by Magistrate Tuanna Hardy.
Mohamed had been charged on November 14, 2025, with having prohibited tinted glass, an obscured identification mark, an unlicensed motor vehicle, and an uninsured motor vehicle. He pleaded not guilty to all charges when the matter was read in court.
During the hearing, defence attorneys Damien DaSilva and Siand Dhurjon made a no-case submission in relation to the charges concerning tinted glass, obscured number plate, and roadworthiness.
The court upheld the submission and dismissed those charges, finding that the prosecution’s evidence, particularly under cross-examination, was vague, tenuous, inconsistent, and unreliable, and insufficient to establish a prima facie case requiring the defendant to answer.
On the remaining charge of driving without insurance, the court heard an unsworn statement from Mohamed and received closing submissions from his attorneys.
Magistrate Hardy subsequently ruled that the prosecution had failed to satisfy the court beyond a reasonable doubt that the offence was committed, and dismissed the final charge.
