Haswell labourer fatally stabbed

Police are investigating the murder of a 27-year-old labourer who was stabbed during an argument at Haswell, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice, early Tuesday morning.

Dead is Naresh Seecharran, also known as “Cat Man” of Glasgow, East Bank Berbice.

According to a police statement, the incident occurred at about midnight on Tuesday. Preliminary investigations indicate that Seecharran and a 20-year-old construction worker of Lochaber, East Canje, Berbice, were among a group of persons drinking alcohol and playing music when an argument broke out between the two men.

Police said the argument escalated into a scuffle, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed Seecharran once to the left side of his neck before fleeing the scene on foot.

The injured man was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.

Police said an examination of the body revealed a stab wound to the left side of the neck.

Acting on information received, investigators later arrested the suspect at No. 19 Village, Corentyne, Berbice. He was taken to the Whim Police Station, where he remains in custody.

Seecharran’s body has been taken to the Ramoo Funeral Home and is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police said investigations into the killing are continuing.
