Man hurt in five-vehicle collision at Blygezight

A five-vehicle collision at the intersection of Conversation Tree Road and the Railway Embankment, Blygezight, Georgetown, yesterday morning left one man injured, police said.

According to a police statement, the accident occurred at about 8.50 am and involved motor jeep PAD 3891, driven by a 58-year-old member of the Guyana Fire Service of Hand-en-Veldt, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, and motor cars PAG 3236, PGG 9135, PAN 4053 and PAB 2512.

Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the jeep was travelling south along Conversation Tree Road when it allegedly overtook two stationary vehicles at the intersection and proceeded through a red traffic light before colliding with motor car PAG 3236, which was travelling west along the Railway Embankment with the traffic light reportedly in its favour.

The impact caused the jeep to lose control, while motor car PAG 3236 continued forward and struck motor cars PGG 9135, PAN 4053 and PAB 2512, which were stationary on Blygezight Public Road, the police said.

The driver of motor car PGG 9135, a 28-year-old man of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, sustained injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was treated for a fractured right shoulder and facial lacerations before being discharged.

Police said breathalyser tests were administered to all of the drivers involved and the readings were below the legal limit.

Investigators have identified CCTV cameras in the vicinity and are reviewing the footage as investigations continue.
