Cop gets bail on charge of assaulting special constable

A 42-year-old police sergeant was yesterday charged with assault causing actual bodily harm and released on $150,000 bail.

Police Sergeant Orlanzo Webster of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, appeared before Magistrate Abigail Gibbs at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.

It is alleged that on October 8, 2025, he assaulted a 40-year-old female Special Constable of the same address, causing her actual bodily harm. The charge was laid under Section 49 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.

Webster pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $150,000.

The matter was adjourned until September 14, 2026.
