Body recovered of boy who disappeared in Corentyne River

The body of 14-year-old Daveanand Rambhajan, who disappeared in the Corentyne River on Monday, was recovered early yesterday morning.

His body was found at about 6:40 a.m. along the Scottburgh seashore, bringing a tragic end to the search that had been ongoing since his disappearance.

Rambhajan, of Number 60 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, had reportedly been swimming with three other boys at the Golden Grove “Back Track” when he allegedly slipped and fell into the river. The other boys reportedly went for help after the incident.

Speaking with Kiskadee Watch, the teen’s stepfather, Faizal DaSilva, confirmed that the body had been recovered. He said the family is struggling to come to terms with the loss, adding that Daveanand’s mother is devastated and finding it difficult to accept her son’s death.

DaSilva also said several of the teenager’s friends were present when the body was recovered from the shoreline.

The body has since been taken to await a post-mortem examination to determine the official cause of death.

Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.
