Slingerz FC produced a relentless second-half comeback to defeat home side Prison Service FC 4-3 and book their place in the quarter-finals of the Caribbean Football Union Club Shield in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Guyana Elite League champions trailed 2-1 at half-time before goals from Kemar Beckford, Neron Barrow and Derel Garcia turned the round-of-16 contest in their favour.

Garcia delivered the decisive moment in the fourth minute of injury time, scoring what proved to be the winning goal after Prison Service threatened to force their way back into the match.

Beckford opened the scoring for Slingerz in the 17th minute, continuing the form that saw him score twice in their 4-0 victory over SWA Sharks in the opening round.

Prison Service took control before the break, however, with Paul Ronell equalising in the 32nd minute and Ezekiel Kesar putting the Trinidad and Tobago club ahead in the 39th.

Slingerz responded strongly after the interval and Beckford completed another brace when he levelled the scores in the 58th minute.

Barrow, who also scored in the opening-round victory, placed Slingerz ahead in the 67th minute as the Guyanese side maintained the pressure on their opponents.

Garcia appeared to make the result safe when he struck in the 90+4th minute to give Slingerz a 4-2 advantage.

Prison Service scored their third goal three minutes later to set up a tense finish, but Slingerz protected their narrow lead and advanced to the next stage.

The Guyanese champions will learn their quarter-final opponents ahead of the matches scheduled for Tuesday, July 28.
