The Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL) says it intends to pursue legal action against a driver following an accident at Annandale, East Coast Demerara, yesterday which damaged a utility pole and other components of its electricity network.
In a statement, the power company identified the driver as Trevon Cockfield and said he was operating motor car PAE 3137 when it came into contact with the network. He was subsequently arrested by ranks from the Vigilance Police Station.
GPL said it would use the appropriate legal channels to recover the cost of repairing and replacing the damaged infrastructure.
The company expressed concern at the frequency of accidents involving its network, noting that they can disrupt critical infrastructure, incur substantial repair costs and pose serious risks to motorists and the public.
It urged motorists to exercise greater caution, particularly in areas where electricity infrastructure is located.
