A 19-year-old man remains hospitalised in an unconscious state after he was allegedly assaulted during a confrontation involving three of his male cousins at Sheet Anchor Village, East Canje, Berbice, on Friday night.
The unemployed Sheet Anchor resident was reportedly involved in a misunderstanding with his cousins, two aged 19 and another aged 18, at about 10 p.m.
According to a police statement, the disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the men allegedly armed themselves with cutlasses and assaulted each other.
The 19-year-old was reportedly pulled away from the confrontation by a 27-year-old woman who was in his company.
Police said approximately five minutes later, the young man collapsed and lost consciousness. He was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was admitted in an unconscious state and is awaiting the results of a CT scan.
Police said no visible wounds were observed on the exposed parts of his body.
Two of the persons involved are currently in custody at the Central Police Station.
