Sonia Williams, the head teacher of Kildonan Primary School, was killed in an alleged hit-and-run accident at Rose Hall, Corentyne, yesterday.
The driver involved in the accident had not been arrested up to yesterday.
The Department of Education in Region Six extended condolences to Williams’s relatives and the Kildonan Primary School community.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends, as well as the entire staff, parents, and learners of Kildonan Primary School, during this time of profound loss,” the department said.
In a separate statement, the school described Williams as a committed educator, a dependable source of guidance and a valued member of the school community whose work touched the lives of pupils, staff, parents and colleagues.
It said her dedication to the education and well-being of children was central to her service and that her leadership helped to create a supportive environment in which pupils and staff could develop.
“She led with purpose and kindness, helping to shape a school environment where pupils could learn, grow, and feel supported,” the school said.
It added that Williams’s leadership, encouragement and belief in the potential of others would remain an important part of Kildonan Primary School’s legacy.
“Your absence will be deeply felt, but your memories, dedication, and impact will remain with us,” the school said.
The school extended condolences to Williams’s family, colleagues, pupils and others affected by her death.
