Bartica dispatcher on $900,000 bail over narcotics trafficking charge

A 38-year-old Bartica dispatcher was on Wednesday granted $900,000 bail after being charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

Omaywattie Persaud, of Fifth Avenue, Bartica, appeared before Magistrate Caressa Henry at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Police said Persaud was arrested on Sunday and charged on Wednesday under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act.

No details were provided about the type or quantity of narcotics allegedly found.

The matter was adjourned until October 30.
