Eboni Brathwaite of Barbados has been handed an opportunity to strengthen her place at international level after being selected in the West Indies Women’s squad for their upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, while Chinelle Henry returns from injury.
Brathwaite, an all-rounder and Under-19 World Cup prospect, replaces Deandra Dottin, who has been granted personal leave for the entire assignment. The tour features three One-Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals between September 24 and October 7, 2026.
Her selection comes as head coach Shane Deitz looks to the younger members of the squad to make their opportunities count against opponents West Indies have faced infrequently.
Speaking ahead of the team’s departure from the region, Deitz welcomed the tour and said Zimbabwe’s home conditions would test the visitors. He viewed the series as a chance for players in his young group to take on greater responsibility at international level.
Henry’s return provides another all-round option after injury disrupted her recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign in England and Wales. She takes the place of Qiana Joseph, who has been omitted following a drop in form.
West Indies will also have to adjust during the tour, with captain Hayley Matthews available only for the ODI series. Matthews will take personal leave before the T20Is, reducing the travelling squad from 15 players to 14.
CWI has otherwise kept faith with the core of the side that enjoyed a successful tour of Ireland and a strong campaign at the T20 World Cup. The Zimbabwe series offers further preparation in both formats and an opportunity to build on that progress.
Alongside captain Matthews, Brathwaite and Henry, the squad includes Aaliyah Alleyne, Shemaine Campbelle, Jahzara Claxton, Afy Fletcher, Jannillea Glasgow, Realeanna Grimmond, Shawnisha Hector, Zaida James, Mandy Mangru, Ashmini Munisar, Karishma Ramharack and Stafanie Taylor.
Team manager Sheena Gooding will accompany the squad, with Deitz supported by assistant coaches Ryan Austin, Ramesh Subasinghe and Shane Dowrich.
Ashley Stephens serves as physiotherapist, Hector Martinez as strength and conditioning coach, Dr. Nadine Sammy as performance coach, and John Phillips as media and content officer.
