Suspected cocaine found concealed in frozen fish at Providence

Police say they found 36 pounds of suspected cocaine concealed in frozen fish during an operation at Richmondville, Providence, East Bank Demerara, yesterday.

According to a police statement, ranks intercepted a vehicle driven by a 44-year-old miner who was its sole occupant. During a search, they found two bags of frozen fish in the trunk. A closer examination of the fish revealed 15 parcels containing a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine, police said.

The miner was arrested and taken to the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters along with the vehicle and suspected narcotics. Police said the parcels weighed a total of 36 pounds.

He remains in custody as investigations continue.
