Potaro, GIA 1 to open Courts Optical Pee Wee quarter-finals today

Potaro and GIA 1 will contest the first quarter-final of the Courts Optical football tournament at 11:00hrs today

Potaro and GIA 1 will contest the first quarter-final of the Courts Optical football tournament at 11:00hrs today, as the competition moves towards deciding its finalists at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground.

Both the quarter-finals and semi-finals will be played during the day, meaning the eight remaining title contenders must win twice to secure a place in the final. Defending champions Leonora are among the teams still in the hunt, with placement matches also included in the programme.

Three games are scheduled for the opening kick-off time. Alongside Potaro’s quarter-final against GIA 1, Redeemer will face St John and Pakuri will meet Plaisance in the ninth–16th-place section.

Santa Rosa Secondary and Marian Academy will contest the next quarter-final at 12:00hrs. At the same time, St Theresa will take on GIA 2 and St Pius will play St Gabriel in the ninth-to-16th-place matches.

The quarter-final round will conclude with two fixtures at 13:00hrs. Leonora will continue their title defence against Waramuri, while West Ruimveldt will take on Tucville.

The route to the final is already mapped out. The Potaro–GIA 1 winner will face the winner of Santa Rosa Secondary against Marian Academy in one semi-final. The other will feature the winners of Leonora against Waramuri and West Riumveldt against Tucville.

The four losing quarter-finalists will compete for fifth through eighth places. The defeated teams from the first two quarter-finals will meet, while the losers of the two 13:00hrs fixtures will play each other.

Further down the draw, the Redeemer–St John winner will meet the St Pius–St Gabriel winner in the ninth–12th-place section. The winners of Pakuri against Plaisance and St Theresa against GIA 2 will contest the other match in that section.

The defeated teams from Redeemer against St John and St Pius against St Gabriel will meet in a 13th-to-16th-place fixture.
