Guyana’s Mavendra Dindyal has been named in a 12-member Caribbean Under-23 cricket squad to face the Wider Commonwealth in a special ten-overs-a-side match on Sunday, November 1, at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and Barbuda.
The 22-year-old Guyanese is among 12 emerging cricketers selected from across the Caribbean for the match, which forms part of the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) cricket celebration, titled “One Commonwealth, One Team – A Commonwealth Cricket Celebration.”
Dominica’s Stephan Pascal, 21, will captain the Caribbean side, while legendary West Indies batsman Sir Vivian Richards has been appointed Honorary Manager.
The squad features one player from each of the 12 Caribbean Commonwealth nations, bringing together young cricketers between the ages of 18 and 22 for an opportunity to showcase their abilities on an international stage.
Dindyal will be joined by Saint Lucia’s Tarrique Edward, St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Ethan Gibson and The Bahamas’ Antonio Harris, who are also 22.
Antigua and Barbuda’s Tanez Francis and Barbados’ Shaquan Belle, both 18, are the youngest members of the squad. Francis will have the opportunity to represent the host nation on home soil.
Pascal described his appointment as captain as a proud moment, particularly with Richards involved in the Caribbean team.
“To captain a team made up of players from twelve Caribbean nations is a huge honour, and an opportunity that I will cherish,” Pascal said.
“Having Sir Vivian Richards as our manager makes it even more special. He is someone every young cricketer in the Caribbean grows up hearing about, and we want to make him proud on the ground that carries his name. We may come from different islands, but on Sunday we will play as one team.”
Richards’ involvement is expected to provide inspiration for the young players, while strengthening the connection between the Caribbean’s cricketing past and its emerging generation.
The match will follow a special Heads of Government fixture and will highlight the celebration’s “Play for the Future” message, which focuses on investing in young people and providing opportunities for their development.
The event is being hosted by Cricket West Indies (CWI) in collaboration with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and the Commonwealth Secretariat.
It will bring together Commonwealth leaders, young cricketers and communities through a shared passion for the sport.
The celebration also supports the theme of CHOGM 2026, “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth,” using cricket to encourage greater cooperation and opportunities among member nations.
Hamilton Reserve Bank is the presenting sponsor, with additional support from Trivandi, the Khalili Foundation and the Sustainable Markets Initiative.
The Wider Commonwealth Under-23 squad is expected to be announced shortly.
