The police say they are investigating a road accident which occurred today at about 06:30hrs on the Rotterdam Public Road, West Coast Demerara and claimed the life of Wendell Softley.
In a statement, the police say that the accident involved motor car HD 6649 driven by 41-year-old Softley of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, and motor lorry GAG 1054.
Preliminary investigations disclosed that the motor car was proceeding west along the southern driving lane, allegedly at a fast rate, when the driver reportedly lost control, ran off the roadway and collided with the front of the motor lorry, which was stationary on the southern parapet.
As a result of the collision, Softley was removed from the driver’s seat in an unconscious state by Emergency Medical Technicians and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
The body was escorted to Ezekiel Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
CCTV footage was obtained and reviewed as part of the investigation.
