Bartica man dies after car overturns on Puruni Trail

A 21-year-old Bartica man died and an 18-year-old gold miner was injured when a car overturned on the Puruni Trail in Region Seven on Monday evening, police said.

Dead is Anthony Allen, of Mongrippa Hill, Bartica. He was driving motor car PAR 6448 at about 6.20 pm when the accident occurred at the 35-kilometre point on the trail.

According to police, the car was travelling east and negotiating a right-hand bend when Allen reportedly lost control. The vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest in a ditch on the northern side of the trail.

Members of the public removed Allen and his passenger, a gold miner of Potaro Road, Bartica, from the car and took them to the Bartica Regional Hospital. Allen was pronounced dead on arrival. The passenger was admitted with injuries and was reported to be in stable condition.

Allen’s body is at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. Police said the investigation is continuing.
