Bartica man held with suspected cannabis in haversack

A 27-year-old Bartica man is in police custody after a quantity of suspected cannabis was found in a haversack he was carrying during a police patrol early yesterday morning.

Police said the discovery was made at about 3.50 am during a patrol in Bartica by ranks from Regional Division Seven.

According to the police, the man, of Second Avenue, Bartica, was observed behaving in a disorderly manner. He was warned to desist but continued, resulting in his arrest and escort to the Bartica Police Station.

A search of a black haversack he was carrying allegedly uncovered a white plastic bag containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

Police said the suspected cannabis was weighed in the man’s presence and amounted to 12.4 grammes before being lodged.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
