A 49-year-old Brazilian gold miner has been remanded to prison after being charged with the murder of a fellow miner at Rock Creek Backdam, Puruni River.
Police said Doroteia Castilho Maia, of Manaus, Brazil, and Rock Creek Backdam, was charged with the indictable offence of murder, contrary to common law.
The charge stems from the killing of Antonio Pereira Figueredo, a 53-year-old Brazilian gold miner of Manaus, Brazil, and Rock Creek Backdam, which allegedly occurred on July 18 at Rock Creek Backdam, Puruni River.
Maia appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where the charge was read to her.
She was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison until August 31, when the matter will continue.
