A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) parliamentarian Terrence Campbell has denied reports circulating on social media that he was held at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) after allegedly being found with 43 rounds of live ammunition while preparing to travel to Trinidad and Tobago.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Campbell said he was leaving Guyana but had not been detained at the airport and was not “caught” with any ammunition.
“I was never held at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport,” Campbell said, adding that the authorities had not “caught” him with ammunition.
Campbell said he would not comment further on the reports, which he described as sensational Facebook posts.
The parliamentarian, who said he had been involved in aviation and aviation security matters for almost three decades, suggested that some matters in the field were not suitable for public discussion.
“Very often these matters are not matters suitable for wide public discussion. Consequently, I will refrain from further public comment on the sensational Facebook posts currently circulating,” he said.
Campbell said his statement was intended to reassure his friends and followers about his wellbeing. “Last, I made this post to reassure my many friends and followers that I am ok and all is well,” he added.
