Canadian company U92 yesterday said that it expected to begin drilling for uranium here in August.
The plan has brewed controversy here as environmentalists say that neither the company, nor the government or the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has provided any evidence of public consultations on this matter. The EPA and the Ministry of Natural Resources have remained silent on this matter despite several queries by Kiskadee Watch.
In a press release yesterday, U92 said that following its environmental application to the EPA in respect of its proposed phase one drill programme, as announced in the Company’s press release dated April 27, 2026, and subsequent correspondence with the EPA, the Company has submitted an environmental management plan as requested by the EPA.
“The Company has determined to proceed with completing the site infrastructure and anticipates that the phase one drill program will commence during the month of August, 2026 following receipt of the EPA’s approval of the environmental management plan”, U92 said.
Yesterday’s press release also disclosed that U92 was required to make amendments to some of its filings and this will put it on a refiling and errors list for three years.
“As a result of the filing of the corrective disclosure referenced above, the Company will be placed on the public Refilings and Errors List for a period of three years in accordance with SN 51-711”, U92 said.
The press release said that the amendments follow a review by staff of the Ontario Securities Commission of the preliminary base shelf prospectus of the Company dated June 5, 2026, and including the documents incorporated by reference therein.
Its Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) dated June 18, 2025 has been re-filed in order to remove certain redactions, including party names that were redacted in the previously filed version of the SPA.
U92 has also filed the agreement entered into between it and Beaconsfield Ventures Ltd. Pursuant to the Data Agreement, the Company acquired the complete historical technical and exploration dataset relating to the Kurupung Uranium Project in Guyana, as further disclosed in the Company’s press releases dated June 1, 2026 and June 19, 2026 and material change report dated June 19, 2026.
In June, the Amerindian Peoples Association (APA) called for plans by U92 Energy Corp to explore for uranium in Region Seven to be halted, arguing that the project has proceeded without consultation with affected Indigenous communities and in violation of the principle of free, prior and informed consent (FPIC).
Responding to questions from Kiskadee Watch, the APA said it was opposed to any uranium exploration, mining or development in the Mazaruni and maintained that communities whose traditional lands are likely to be affected have not been given an opportunity to make their views known.
“In keeping with decades of decisions and deliberations that the leaders and peoples of the Mazaruni have made, the APA is of the position that there should be no uranium exploration, mining or development activities in Region Seven,” the organisation said.
It added: “We categorically reject this developing uranium project especially because there has been no consultations with respect to the principles of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent with the peoples of the Mazaruni whose traditional lands are now under threat by uranium exploration.”
