Two weeks after two men were gunned down at Vigilance South, East Coast Demerara, no arrest has been made and relatives say they have received no updates from police on the investigation.
Speaking with Kiskadee Watch yesterday, family members said that since post-mortem examinations were conducted they have not been informed of any progress in the probe. They expressed concern that the investigation appears to have stalled and questioned whether anyone would ultimately be brought to justice. Both victims have since been laid to rest.
The fatal shooting occurred at about 10 pm on July 8 at a shop in Vigilance South.
The dead men were identified as 22-year-old Cordel August, a wash bay attendant of Lot 8815 Vigilance South, and 35-year-old Eon Headley, a self-employed resident of the same community.
Post-mortem examinations later found that August died from a gunshot wound to the chest after sustaining two gunshot injuries, while Headley died from multiple gunshot wounds about the body.
According to police, preliminary investigations revealed that August and Headley were among a group of persons gathered at a shop when two men dressed in black, who arrived on a motorcycle, opened fire before escaping.
The two injured men were rushed by public-spirited citizens to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
