A board of directors of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been gazetted almost ten months after its stated appointment.
The notice, dated August 18 and uploaded to the Official Gazette website on Friday, states that Cabinet approved the board “for a period of one (1) year” with effect from October 28, 2025 to October 27, 2027.
The notice provides no explanation for the discrepancy or the delay in publishing the appointments.
Omkar Lochan has been appointed Chairman, while Karen Roopchand is the Vice-Chairperson.
The other members are Dr Bendita Latchmansingh, Dion Inniss, Eon Boyal, Desmond Sears and Dr Josh Kanhai, along with representatives of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission and the Guyana Forestry Commission.
According to the notice, Cabinet considered a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance before approving the appointments to the entity, which falls within the presidential sector.
Lochan is the Head of Policy Planning and Coordination at the Ministry of Natural Resources and has chaired the EPA board for several years.
Stabroek News reported in February 2022 that the board then comprised Lochan, Vanessa Benn, Latchmansingh, Roopchand, Sarah Browne, Sears, Kanhai and representatives of the mining and forestry commissions.
The latest composition therefore retains five of the named members from that board, while Dion Inniss and Eon Boyal appear to have replaced Benn and Browne who are both now ministers of government.
