Two Indonesian nationals were killed and four other foreign nationals injured in a three-vehicle collision along the Timehri Public Road, East Bank Demerara, early this morning.

Police said the fatal accident occurred at about 03:51 hrs and involved motor lorry GAJ 3074, minibus BAH 6588, and minibus BAF 1135.

The lorry was being driven by a 36-year-old resident of Land of Canaan, while minibus BAH 6588 was driven by a 48-year-old resident of Lusignan. Minibus BAF 1135 was being driven by a 55-year-old resident of Crane Housing Scheme.

Police identified the two men who died as Indonesian nationals Edy Ansyori Sukri and Ikomang Tedy Arsa Bantara Putra. Both were occupants of minibus BAF 1135 and were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the police, preliminary enquiries revealed that the lorry was proceeding south along the eastern driving lane of the Timehri Public Road at a reportedly fast rate when the driver allegedly swerved southwest and collided with minibus BAH 6588, which was travelling north along the western driving lane.

The lorry subsequently collided with minibus BAF 1135, which was travelling behind minibus BAH 6588.

All three vehicles were extensively damaged in the collision. The occupants of minibus BAF 1135 sustained injuries, with four other foreign nationals requiring medical attention.

A Guyana Defence Force ambulance, accompanied by Emergency Medical Technicians, responded to the scene and transported the four injured passengers to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

Police said checks were made for eyewitnesses and CCTV footage, but none was found.

The scene and the damaged vehicles were photographed by a Crime Scene rank, while the vehicles were examined by a Licensing and Certifying Officer.

The bodies of the two deceased men were taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where they are awaiting post-mortem examinations.

Breathalyzer tests conducted on all three drivers returned negative results for alcohol. The drivers remain in police custody as investigations continue.

Further investigations are ongoing.
