Fire destroys house on Norton St

The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) yesterday said that it received a call about a house on fire at Lot 22 Norton Street, Newbury, Georgetown.

Water Tenders 130, Water Carrier #26 and crews under the command of Section Leader Devent  of  Headquarters, water tender #131 and crew under the command of Section Leader Marcus and crew from Campbellville Fire Station responded.

Upon their arrival smoke and fire were seen and they went swiftly into action to extinguish the blaze.

The GFS said that  fire was seen emanating from rubbish in the yard that had ignited with nearby combustible materials and spread to the nearby house.

The firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze stopping the fire from spreading further.
