The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) yesterday said it responded to a report of a fire at Lot 107 New Market, Rose Hall and averted what could have been a disaster.

A release from the GFS said that Water Tender #22, under the command of Leading Fireman Crawford, along with his crew, was immediately dispatched to the scene.

Through the swift response and coordinated efforts of the firefighters, the blaze was successfully extinguished, averting a potentially major disaster.

Fortunately, the two-storey wooden structure sustained only minor damage, as firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
