GNBS launches verification service of tint, sound meters

Verifying the sound level

The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) yesterday launched two new verification services, Verification of Tint Meters and Verification of Sound Level Meters.

A release from the GNBS said that the new services will become available effective July 13, 2026. The launch was held at GNBS Head Office at the National Exhibition Centre, Sophia, Georgetown.

The new verification services are intended to ensure the accuracy and reliability of instruments used to measure Vehicle Visible Light Transmission (VLT) and environmental sound levels.

As part of the implementation of the new services, Inspectors of GNBS Legal Metrology Department, along with representatives from the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), completed two  training sessions in the verification of sound level meters and tint meters.

Tint meters and sound level meters are required to be verified every six months to maintain measurement accuracy, the GNBS said. The approved cost recovery fees are as follows:

▪ Sound Level Meters (Private Entities): $3,000 per instrument

▪ Sound Level Meters (Government Ministries and Agencies): $20,000 per instrument

▪ Tint Meters (All Users): $10,000 per instrument
