Gold miner pleads guilty to unlawful wounding

A 33-year-old gold miner has been charged with unlawful wounding and remanded to prison following his appearance at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Godwell Payne, of South Haslington, East Coast Demerara, was arrested on Sunday, September 6, 2026, in connection with an alleged unlawful wounding. He was charged on Tuesday.

Payne appeared before Magistrate Caressa Henry, where the charge was read to him.

He pleaded guilty and was remanded to prison.

The matter was adjourned to October 7, 2026, for continuation.
