GPL outlines long-term plans to city chamber

Kesh Nandlall

The Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) yesterday outlined its development agenda and long-term plans for the electricity sector during an engagement with members of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI).

According to a GPL press release, the meeting formed part of the company’s ongoing stakeholder engagement programme aimed at strengthening relations with the private sector.

GPL’s Executive Management Team head, Kesh Nandlall, led a delegation of company directors and used the opportunity to provide an update on the utility’s operational priorities, infrastructure projects and strategic plans for the sector.

In an address to the chamber, Nandlall said GPL is pursuing several initiatives intended to improve the reliability of electricity supply, expand network capacity and modernise the company’s operations. He also outlined the utility’s five-year strategic plan, which focuses on improving operational efficiency, customer service and supporting national development while preparing for increasing energy demand.

The release said Nandlall emphasised GPL’s commitment to transforming its operations through investments in transmission and distribution infrastructure, technological upgrades and workforce development in an effort to deliver a more reliable and resilient service.

Members of the business community also engaged GPL’s executive team during the session, raising issues affecting the private sector and national development.

GCCI President Kathy Smith welcomed the engagement and thanked GPL for meeting with the chamber and its members. She stressed the importance of maintaining dialogue between the business community and public utilities in support of Guyana’s economic growth.

Senior Vice-President Gavin Ramsoondar also thanked GPL for what he described as an informative presentation and for providing members with insights into the company’s ongoing projects and future plans.

GPL said it remains committed to transparency, stakeholder collaboration and continuous improvement as it works to meet the country’s evolving energy needs.
