Guyana has assumed the chairmanship of the Caribbean Aviation Safety and Security Oversight System (CASSOS) for the 2026–2028 term, with regional aviation officials meeting in Georgetown last Friday to discuss air services, security and the organisation’s financial sustainability.
Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, retired Lieutenant Colonel Egbert Field, chaired the 29th meeting of the CASSOS Board of Directors at the Aiden by Best Western Hotel on October 2.
According to a release dated October 5, this was the first board meeting under Field’s chairmanship, and all member states were represented.
The agenda included full implementation of the CARICOM Multilateral Air Services Agreement, organisational restructuring, measures to improve CASSOS’s financial sustainability and advancement of the One Stop Security initiative.
The release did not detail the decisions taken or provide timelines for implementing the measures discussed.
CASSOS is a specialised unit within CARICOM which works to strengthen aviation safety and security oversight across the Caribbean. The release said the meeting focused on advancing regional aviation standards and reinforcing cooperation among member states.
