Guyana, US hold historic investment forum

The meeting on Friday

Guyana and the United States on Friday held the first-ever Guyana Investment Enabling Forum, held in Washington, D.C. in partnership with the U.S. Department of State and the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU), according to a release on the Facebook page of Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud.

The release said that the Government of Guyana’s delegation was led by Dr. Ashni Singh, Senior Minister with Responsibility for Finance, and included Persaud. The United States delegation was led by Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.

The release said that the Forum brought together senior U.S. government officials, representatives of major American corporations, and Guyanese officials to advance investment opportunities across multiple sectors of Guyana’s economy.

The release added that the Forum also underscored the United States’ unwavering support and respect for Guyana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as a foundation for continued cooperation and investment. The Guyanese delegation also included Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, Chief Investment Officer; Samuel Hinds, Guyana’s Ambassador to the United States of America; Navita Anganu-Ramroop, Counsellor for Guyana at the Inter-American Development Bank; and Wazim Mowla, Advisor to the Embassy of Guyana.

In a post on the Ministry of Finance’s Facebook page, Singh said “It was an honour to represent Guyana at the recent U.S.-Guyana Investment Enabling Forum, hosted by the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU), in partnership with the U.S. Department of State, at the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, DC”.

He said that he used the opportunity of the forum to emphasize that Guyana considers its relationship with the U.S. to be special, rooted not only in shared values but also in shared interests.

He said that he also underscored that the U.S. remains Guyana’s largest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and its leading trade partner. Over the last decade, bilateral trade between the two nations exceeded $25 billion USD, with more than half of that occurring in the last two years alone.

Singh added that he reiterated that President Irfaan Ali and his Government remain committed to strengthening and expanding Guyana’s partnership with the U.S. including through deeper investment, trade, and commercial ties. He said that he emphasised that we would like more U.S. companies to invest in Guyana, and to do business in Guyana and with Guyana and Guyanese companies.

Landau said on X after the bilateral meeting, “Our Administration looks forward to fostering partnerships between Guyana and the US private sector.”
