King Charles III and Queen Camilla are to visit Guyana in late October as part of a week-long Caribbean tour, the government announced today.
In a brief statement on President Irfaan Ali’s Facebook page, the government said the King had accepted its invitation and a request from the United Kingdom Government to visit Guyana to mark 60 years of bilateral relations between the two countries.
According to a Reuters report, Buckingham Palace announced today that the King and Queen’s autumn tour would also take them to The Bahamas and Antigua and Barbuda.
The report said according to the Palace announcement, the royal couple will pay a State Visit to Guyana and visit The Bahamas before attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda from November 1 to 4. The precise dates and programme for the Guyana leg of the tour were not disclosed.
Guyana established diplomatic relations with the United Kingdom after gaining independence in 1966.
