Miner killed during drinking session at Eyelash Landing

A 28-year-old miner was killed on Saturday during an argument with another man at Eyelash Landing, North West District, according to police reports.

Dead is Trevlon Marcieo Henry, called “Mario”, of Port Kaituma, Region One. A 33-year-old miner has been arrested.

According to police reports, Henry and the suspect, who were known to each other and were reportedly friends, were consuming alcohol with other patrons at the landing around 10.50 am on October 17.

Police said the men became intoxicated and an argument ensued. The suspect allegedly picked up a cutlass from the ground and chopped Henry on his neck and right arm.

Henry fell to the ground, bleeding heavily, and became motionless. The suspect reportedly fled into the Eyelash Backdam with the weapon.

The matter was reported to the Matthew’s Ridge Police Station and ranks visited the scene around 1 pm, accompanied by a medex who pronounced Henry dead.

Police said wounds were observed on Henry’s neck and right arm. The scene was processed and samples of a substance suspected to be blood were collected. His body was taken to the Matthew’s Ridge Hospital Mortuary to await a post-mortem examination.

Police ranks and members of the public subsequently apprehended the suspect, who reportedly had the cutlass in his possession. Police said he admitted to the allegation after being cautioned.

He remains in custody at the Matthew’s Ridge Police Station. The cutlass was lodged and witness statements were taken.
