Minister of Education Sonia Parag on Saturday assured that the JE Burnham Primary School in Kitty will not be closed, saying plans are being pursued to construct a nursery school to accommodate the growing number of nursery-age children, alongside a separate block for secondary students.
Speaking with Kiskadee Watch, she explained that the ministry is holding consultations with parents as it moves towards construction of the new nursery facility.
“There is no closure,” she said, noting that the intention is to provide appropriate accommodation for nursery pupils while making provisions for secondary students.
Parag said consultations with parents are ongoing, although she did not provide a construction start date or indicate when the proposed facilities would be completed.
The announcement comes in the face of questions surrounding the future arrangements at the JE Burnham Primary School, with the minister seeking to clarify that the plans do not involve closing the school.
The proposed construction is expected to address accommodation needs for nursery-age children while providing additional space for secondary-level students.
Further details on the project, including its cost, construction timeline and the arrangements for students during the works, were not provided in the update.
