Opposition Leader says donated June, July salaries to persons in need

One of the appeals for assistance which was responded to by the Opposition Leader.

The Leader of the Opposition, Azruddin Mohamed has donated his salary for the months of June and July to assist Guyanese families and individuals facing serious challenges.

A release today from his office said that the combined salaries were not sufficient to meet all of the requests for assistance, and Mohamed used his personal funds to provide additional support to those in need.

According to his Facebook page, the monies were used as follows:

* A baby requiring life-saving surgery in India received financial assistance toward the medical treatment and travel necessary to give the child a chance at recovery.

* Five families of persons who lost their lives in the MV Barima tragedy received financial support during an extremely difficult period of grief and hardship.

* The families of the three crewmen of the MV Barima tragedy who were arrested and charged were given financial assistance.

* Three three-wheel mobility bikes were given to differently abled persons—one in Essequibo, another in Region 6, and the third to a beneficiary from Hururu, Berbice, Region 10. These three-wheel bikes will help the beneficiaries move around more independently, run errands, and carry out their daily activities with greater ease.

* A woman received financial assistance to set up a small cooking business.

* A man from Mahaicony Creek who fell ill received financial assistance to help him complete his home while dealing with his illness and difficult circumstances.
