Minister of Education Sonia Parag yesterday urged pupils awaiting this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) results not to be anxious, telling them they had already achieved an important milestone by completing the examination.

In a video message released ahead of today’s announcement of the results, Parag congratulated the pupils as well as their parents, guardians and teachers.

“To our beautiful Grade Six children, ahead of the results tomorrow, I want to congratulate each and every one of you. You have made us proud,” she said.

Acknowledging the anxiety surrounding the release of the results, Parag said she understood the feelings of both pupils and their families.

“I know that you’re nervous. I know that your parents may be nervous right now. I was there last year and I know what it feels like to wait to see those results, but don’t be nervous,” she said.

The minister encouraged pupils to look ahead to the next stage of their education regardless of the secondary school to which they are assigned.

“You have crossed the milestone and you’re now heading into your secondary educational journey. Irrespective of what secondary school you got, I want you to head into that journey with passion, focus and dedication,” she said.

Parag invited pupils and their families to follow today’s announcement of the results, after which candidates will be able to access their individual results through an online link to be provided by the Ministry of Education.

“Please remember that we are very proud of you and as a government we will continue to invest in your educational journey,” she added.

The NGSA determines placement in secondary schools across the country and is one of the most significant examinations in the public education system.

For many years, the Ministry of Education has continued to digitise the release of the results, allowing parents and pupils to access their individual performance. A total of 15,935 candidates were registered to write this year’s examination on April 29th.
