A 24-year-old porter from Chelsea Park, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara was yesterday charged with the murder of 21-year-old Kerryann Standiford, whose body was discovered buried in a shallow grave.
Travis James appeared before Magistrate Alan Wilson at the Mahaicony Magistrate’s Court, where the indictable charge of murder was read to him. He was not required to enter a plea.
The charge alleges that James murdered Standiford between July 1 and July 10, 2026, at Chelsea Park, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.
James, who was arrested on July 10, was formally charged yesterday.
The magistrate remanded him to prison until August 3, 2026, when the matter will return to court for statements and fixture.
Standiford, a resident of Anns Grove, East Coast Demerara, was reported missing before her body was discovered in a shallow grave at Mahaica. A post-mortem examination later found that she died from asphyxia and severe spinal injuries. Police have said James admitted to killing the pregnant woman during an argument before burying her body.
