Residents and commuters using Shanghai Street, Amelia’s Ward, Region Ten, now have access to a rehabilitated and widened roadway, the Ministry of Public Works says.
In a statement, the ministry said its Linden team carried out the road and drainage works after the existing roadway deteriorated and concerns arose about inadequate surface water management, particularly during heavy rainfall.
The works included the construction of concrete and slipper drains to channel runoff away from the road and nearby properties. A junction box was also constructed at the roadway’s lowest point to improve drainage.
According to the ministry, the upgraded road is expected to provide safer and more comfortable conditions for motorists, pedestrians and other users while improving access to homes, businesses and other facilities in the community.
The ministry said the project formed part of its continuing programme to improve road infrastructure and connectivity and make community roads more resilient to environmental conditions.
It thanked Shanghai Street residents for their patience and cooperation while the works were being undertaken.
