Store on fire near Stabroek Market

The raging fire

The Guyana Fire Service has responded to a fire at a store in the vicinity of Stabroek Market in Georgetown, which has since spread to a nearby building that previously housed the fast-food restaurant KFC.

According to the Fire Service, several firefighting units and crews were dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other nearby buildings.

The responding units include Water Tenders #130 and #131, Water Carrier #26 and Fireboat Protector #9. The crews are operating under the command of Section Leader Kingston.

The Fire Service confirmed that the fire had spread from the initial store to the adjacent building that housed KFC, raising concerns about the impact on other structures in the commercial area.

The circumstances surrounding the fire, including its cause and the extent of the damage, have not yet been established.

The Fire Service said further information would be provided as it becomes available.
