Thirty firefighters conclude heavy-duty driver training

The trained firemen

Thirty firefighters have successfully completed the Guyana Fire Service’s Heavy-Duty Driver Training Programme, one of the largest cohorts to be trained by the service.

According to the Guyana Fire Service (GFS), the week-long programme commenced on Monday, June 22, at its Training School and concluded yesterday.

The training equipped participants with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate and maintain heavy-duty fire-fighting vehicles, with the aim of strengthening the service’s operational readiness and emergency response capacity across the country.

The GFS said the graduates are scheduled to receive Certificates of Competency from the Guyana Police Force on Monday, authorising them to operate heavy-duty vehicles.

The successful participants comprise five firefighters from Region Three, 16 from Region Four, five from Region Six and four from other departments within the service.

The Fire Service said the programme forms part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen its human resource capacity through specialised training and ensure that firefighters are equipped with the skills needed to provide effective emergency services nationwide.
