Widespread blackout after GPL experiences `network disturbance’

Large parts of the country suffered power outages that were continuing early this morning after a problem on the Demerara-Berbice Interconnected System (DBIS) .

The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) in a Facebook post said that there was a “network disturbance” and as a result customers in Georgetown, West Demerara, East Coast, East Bank and Berbice were experiencing an interruption in electricity supply.

Teams have been mobilized to restore electricity as soon as possible.

GPL apologized for the inconvenience caused.
