Dear Editor,
While at Columbia University in New York, my Vice President for the Caribbean Students Association (CSA) and my Leadership Team had put together a Sparrow concert for the entire university to enjoy. It was a resounding success and as part of the celebration I invited the Mighty Sparrow to spend some time with me in the studio at WKCR FM on my radio show. He was a very interesting and pleasant person to speak with. His personality was very jovial, and he had that West Indian wicked yet respectful sense of humour. Thanks to his great talent for entertaining, he easily captured the imagination of the crowd, taking them into an authentic Caribbean fête. He left a positive and lasting impression on the University students that attended his show.
On behalf of our CSA team, I extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Calypso legend, The Mighty Sparrow, recently passed away at the age of Ninety One. His life was truly a celebration of what it meant to be Caribbean, and we will always look back on that moment in his presence with fond memories.
